Blogging Not Important For Baidu Space Anymore

Baidu HiBaidu Space was originally launched as a blogging service in July 2006, accompanied by its blog search engine. Since then, the service has been growing steadily, but not dominating.

A recent update of the service allows users to change their space into MySpace style in one step. The new style, which is called “Networking Style”, highlights elements like your interest, your background, comments from others, background music, multimedia-enabled “about me”, etc. But your recent blog posts are not included in the default set, although you can add it yourself later.

Now it also has a Facebook newsfeeds like feature called “What’s New”. The area shows recent activities of you and your friends in separate tabs.

New registered users will be in this new style by default. The power of default will certainly turn this blogging service into a pure social network going forward.

As speculated by others, Baidu probably is preparing for the launch of its instant messenger. The new Baidu space will serve as web presence of the your IM buddies.
