Chinese Leaders Have Their Fans Site
Several months ago, a Facebook page on the Chinese Premier Jiabao Wen attracts about 60,000 supporters so far for his performance during Wen Chuan Earthquake. The fans of Jiabao Wen are called “Eight-treasure Rice (八宝饭)” by Chinese netizens, while the fans of the Chinese President Jintao Hu are called “Assorted Rice (什锦饭)”. Now the fans of the Premier and the President have their official site. People.com.cn, a site under People’s Daily, launched a site called “什锦八宝fans Zone”.
The fans site allows users to register as a fans of Jintao Hu and Jiabao Wen to show your supports to them, after registration you can get a certificate of Hu and Wen’s fans. But I have problem in registering the site now. The site is full of news and pictures about President Hu and Premier Wen. You can also leave message to them, of course, the message needs to be moderated before it can appear online. Right now, the latest message I can see on the site is left about 12 hours ago.
On the right top of the site, there is a “support” function, similar to “digg”. But the no. of the supports seems not real, when I keep clicking the “Support” button, the no. increase very quickly for each of my click.
It’s good to see Chinese leaders pay more attention on social media, such as President Hu’s online chat with users of People.com.cn. However, it is still very superficial, people can only express their feelings in the way favored by the site, it is not a real social media. But we hope it is a good sign and start.
