56.com Launches SNS and Apps Platform

56.com, previously one of the leading video sharing site in China, is rumored to change its strategy to a social networking site, after it has been shut down by the regulators for over a month in June. In China, it is required to have a license from SARFT to operate online video service, most of the online service providers, such as Tudou, Youku and PPsteam, have obtained it already. If 56.com fails to get the license, it have to change its strategy.

In this week, 56.com launched its new application platform. Now, if you visit 56.com, you will be redirected to v-56.com. But if you log in to the system, it will bring you back to 56.com with an Facebook-like interface. Besides video uploading and photo slides, which are 56.com’s existing services, you can also find the new widgets services.

Currently, most of the apps on the platform are web games. The hype of Kaixin001.com on the SNS market in China has driven many social networking sites, such as Xiaonei, Hainei and even Sina to go after social networking game services. 56.com is another site who want to take advantage of the hype, but do we need another SNS site with focus on game?
