Netease Is Testing Ajax Personal Homepage

Netease-ajax-portalNetease (Nasdaq:NTES) stealthy adds ajax portal service into its popular email service recently. It seems that now you can only access it from your Netease email accounts.

As all other Ajax personal portal services, users can add rss feeds or import opml to their own homepage. The default modules include Google search, weather report by Yahoo( it is strange that Netease use a English module here), a clock and calendar and some rss feed of Netease. There is also a RSS search engine( powered by Netease?), but it seems that it only search the feed already added by users into their portal. It is still buggy and UI design is bad.

Netease also support anyone to develop widgets for it. Users can also use the URL of http://rss.mail.126.com/?user=myname to share their portal infomation with friends, but you can not find any tips in doing so in the page unless you check the help page carefully.

It should be the first China’s portal to test such service, what I’m most interested in is how will Netease position this product.
