Ebay China Launch Trading Assistant Program
This feature has been there for months now. In Ebay’s online community, it has already opened a forum for trading assistant dating back to Mar. 2006. Today it’s formally launched with a nice Chinese name 甩手掌柜. Interesting enough, this word is formerly used to describe Jack Ma, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alibaba, which is ebay’s main rival in China.
This feature is already available on Ebay’s main website for years. Successful trading assistant has introduced how they do their business. And there’re already many books introducing how to be a good trading assistant. While something is recorded in books, it’s never new anymore. Companies like ISoldIt is a more professional player with this feature.
So how it works. Let’s say you have some goods that you want to sell on Ebay, but you don’t have time and knowledge to make it. Now you can hire real person from Ebay community to do this for you with a fee that agreed between you and your trading assistant. They are not from Ebay but users like you. They have time and knowledge for selling goods online but probably they are lack of sources of goods.
There’s a search engine for choosing trading assistant. You can search for assistant according to your location, type of goods and language skills of the assistant. All the available assistants must have high reputation and good feedback from their online selling history.
Ebay and Taobao are competing each other in B2C market of China. Not long ago, Taobao launched their B2C brand, Taobao City, with both online and offline version (covered by Pacific Epoch and Vnunet). As a response, Ebay launched corporation branded flagship shop. The formal launch of Trading Assistant Program is a further step in this area. This is surely a good human resource pool for companies that want to use online channel but don’t have enough human power to do that themselves.
From a web2.0 view, Ebay’s new move introduced a new relationship into the community. Originally there’re only sellers and buyers. Now there comes a new role, assistant. That will make people in the community more tightly connected to each other. Apparently it’s a good way to make users involved in the community more closely.
