Maayee looking into social review market
Maayee is a new social review community just launched on Oct. 20, several days before 2nd Chinese Blogger Conference, then got a promotion on the conference. Founder of Maayee is Maitian, a famous Chinese blogger.
We have got social review services like Dianping, focused on review of restuarant and shop (see our profile of Dianping), and Myetone, focused on review of products. Why we need another social review service?
Well, what if you want to share some knowledge about Korea food, or probably you can teach women how to protect skin in winter. That makes Maayee a bit difference. In this service, you can share review in more gerenal topic, not necessarily focus on a specific goods or shop.
Maayee is basically a big bbs. It has some pre-established categories or boards. In each boards, there’re user generated topics. Posts are organized into these topics or subboards. Users can suggest new topics or apply to be master of existing topics. The benefit of being a master, besides having management privilege of this topic, you can share advertisement revenue with the website.
Here comes the monetization issue of the website. Since in each topic, posts are topic focused. Maayee will provide targeted advertisement opportunity for advertisors. The income will be shared with masters of that topic. According to the website, masters will get 30% of the revenue.
This is not the end of the story. Maayee is also aiming C2C market. In their upcoming features, users will be able to sell goods, even open virtual shop on the website. That will be a threat to Ebay and Taobao. In general, social review services should partner with shopping website to get bonus by goods refer. It’s a bit interesting to see how Maayee will deal with the relationship with these shopping sites.
Social review services is becoming hot. Not long ago, Alibaba invested in social review and local search company Koubei, which is covered by us here.
UPDATE: Read Accesine’s post for more information about Maayee.
