Funding News Roundup: JiaoYou, Waps.cn and Mapbar

Waps.cnWaps.cn raised over $8M from Sequoia: Waps.cn, founded in June 2005, is mainly engaged in providing wireless marketing platform for WAP service providers. Their products and services include WAPS AdMonster, a wireless advertising management and monitor platform; WAPS AdAnywhere, A Wap advertising affilation; WAPS eSite, a tool for easily building Wap site. Waps.cn has built cooperationship with many partners as Yahoo China, Sina, Kongzhong, Lenovo and etc. It is said to be the first deal in mobile field for Sequoia Capital China.

JiaoyouIDG-Accel invested $2.72M in Jiaoyou: IDG-Accel China Growth Fund, managed jointly by IDGVC and Accel Partners, recently invested USD 2.73 million in Jiaoyou.com. Jiaoyou is yet another social networking site for finding their Mr. or Ms. Right. The site was built by students from University of Columbia with the initial aim to build an online community for oversea Chinese singles.

MapbarMapBar finished second found funding from IDGVC and WiHarper : IDGVC and WIHarper recently invested about $10M in Mapbar, one of the main map and local search service providers in China. Currently, Baidu’s map search service is powered by Mapbar. Its competitors include Go2map from Sohu, Mapabc who powered local search of Google China and Sina’s iAsk search, and 51ditu who raised $30M in May 2006. In early 2005, Mapbar secured its serial A funding from IDGVC.

    Digital map market is hot. Three days ago, 51du was acquired by Renren, which is part of Oak Pacific.

    Pacific Epoch today reported that Mapbar may only get 5M in this round of funding.
