Chinese Bloggers To Hit 20 Million
Following a blogosphere report released almost one year ago, Baidu released its second Chinese blogosphere development report of this year.
According to the report, as of November 3rd, 2006, there are 19.87 million Chinese bloggers worldwide and about 52.3 million Chinese blogs. On average, every blogger has 2.6 blogs. Compared with last year’s report, the number of bloggers increased by 24%, while the number of blogs increased by 41%. The report said the growth in the number of Chinese bloggers slowed over the past year.
On average, a blogger update its blog every 7.6 days. About 15.2% bloggers, that is about 3 million, will update their blogs at lease once a week. 4.6% bloggers update blogs daily. Bloggers tend to write short post, 42% of all blog posts are less than 500 words.
Almost half of bloggers (48.5%) update their blogs in day time or working hour (from 10 am to 6 pm). 12.4% bloggers update blogs on 4 pm to 6 pm, while 16.3% update on 7 pm to 10 pm.
Currently there are 1460 blogging service providers in China. The press release of Baidu said it is an increase of 55% year over year. However, if compared with 658 BSPs in last year’s report, the growth rate should be 122%.
Baidu provides a rank of top ten BSPs in China, they are QQ-zone, Sina Blog, MSN Live Spaces, Sohu Blogs, Baidu Space, Netease Blog, 51.com, Bokee, Blogbus and Hexun Blog. The list is quite different from last year’s, only four of them made presence in both year’s top ten list. The top ten list also tells that the blogging market in China now is dominated by big internet companies.
The report also showed that about 20% of last year’s top 100 BSPs in China have closed or terminated their service for various reasons.
When Baidu released the report last year, I think it may be a clue for Baidu to launch its blog search service, now one year later, Baidu is about to launch blog search service finally.
