Youyulu: Aggregator of Friend Blogosphere
Youyulu is an RSS reader with social network features cleverly based on your existing friends. Different from other social networks which are supposed to help you find new friends, Youyulu is an application to connect you and your friends more tightly and thus you can share information more easily.
Youyulu is a months old service developed by Lian Qiao. He explained a little bit of the service in this post (scroll to the end of the post). It doesn’t intended to compete with mainstream RSS readers like Bloglines and Google Readers. Its niche market is for people who never read blogs other than their friends’.
One feature that Microsoft Live Space doesn’t provide is a place that I can read updates from all my contacts’ spaces in a river of news style. I don’t want to click thought all those twinkle stars to read each space and I am too lazy to add all those RSS into my feeds reader. Currently I use Live Space Mobile version to check my contacts’ updated spaces. Now I definitely have a feeling to switch to Youyulu to track them.
Youyulu currently supports importing contact list from Live Messanger, Douban, Xiaonei and SMTH bbs. Of course any OPML is supported. Above mentioned service list is just for non-tech-savvy users. Supporting of Douban is a thoughtful design, which we haven’t seen in other places. And I believe if Douban can open contact list will make such kind of integration more smoothly.
Other features include gossip news sharing with bookmarklet, personal information aggregation and blog widget.
One thing I suppose it doesn’t support is to syndicate with my external contact list. If I add new friends into my Live Messenger or Douban contact, I am still lazy to add them again into another service like Youyulu. If anybody is developing such an application, here’s a feature for you to consider.
