Chinese video sharing market is so hot: Recently, two video sharing service announced to secure funding. Yoqoo, established by former Sohu President Victor Koo in June, has raised raised $12 million from Sutter Hill Ventures, Farallon Capital and Chengwei Ventures, and Tvix.cn is said to get $20 million funding from several undisclosed investors. There was rumor that Baidu is considering to acquire a video sharing sites, they are in talking with Tudou and 56.com. Meanwhile, it is said Google also plans to a acquire video sharing site or find a local partner to operate Youtube Chinese version.
China tightens control on online music: The Chinese Ministry of Culture has issued guidelines on the development and management of online music. The guideline says that online music operators must have an online cultural services operation license and no foreign-invested online cultural companies are allowed to operate music product services in China. It says network music based on music products copied or composed by netizens for non-profit purposes must be monitored more closely. This guideline may have potential influence on Chinese online music sites.
Yahoo China is testing businesses search service: Yahoo China and Alibaba is privately testing a new businesses search service among customers of Alibaba and Taobao now, reported by Sina. After reading the report, I still have no idea what this businesses search is. Is it another kinds of online yellow page?
Taobao adds team purchase function: Taobao, the most popular C2C sites in China, added new team purchase function in November. Some Chinese shoppers group together to buy appliances, furniture and other goods in bulk for a better discount, that’s called team purchase.
Now, merchandisers in Taobao can set price and minimum volume for team purchase for their goods. If shoppers would like to buy the good at team purchase price, they can make the purchase, and pay the money via Alipay. If number of purchase meets the minimum volume requirement, then it would be a successful team purchase, the merchandiser will deliver the goods, and the payment will be transfer to merchandiser via Alipay. Top Baidu searches of 2006: Early this week, Baidu released its top searches of 2006, including celebrities, movies, dramas, mp3, most asked “why”, “how” and “what” question in Baidu Zhidao (a service similar to Yahoo Answer), and others. “Mp3″ has been the most searched keyword at least since 2004.
