Monitor all websites in one place
580k is a service to aggregate updates from websites in one place just like online RSS readers do but without requiring RSS from the website.
From this service we saw shadows of formerly promising Pubsub, Watch That Page and Ponyfish. Well, basically the service acts like Watch That Page. You started by telling the service URL of the website you want to monitor. Then you can focus the alert within topics. You can treat topics as tag, keyword or whatever, since you don’t know how the system uses them.
The chances of the service to be adopted by the masses is somewhat big because it doesn’t ask for an RSS, although it might take advantage of RSS in the background. Anyway it doesn’t rely on RSS, a bit like Pubsub. But you still have to opt-in the websites that you want to monitor, unlike Pubsub which can monitor the whole Internet. It’s sad that Pubsub has died.
Like Ponyfish, the service generates an RSS for you to track updates from websites. You can also select to receive alerts by email or check them directly online.
There’s also a Firefox extension, Page Update Checker, can do the same thing if you are interested.
While you check updates online, you can bookmark a link and save a full copy of the webpage in 580k. Also you can search in your history links.
580k launched in Sept. 22, 2006 by Guangzhou based Huawei Soft. Here’s the press release. In case you are interested in the name of the service, it’s the pronunciation of the service in Chinese.
Huawei Soft is a traditional software company established in 1997 with initial funding of 30 million Chinese Yuan.
This is another example of a traditional company embracing web2.0. Other good examples include City8. Hint, they are going to launch major updates soon.
What makes information monitoring service really useful is relevance and tracking frequency. Whether 580k is qualified for this criteria is beyond our knowledge after ten minutes playing. You are encouraged to try it and let us know what you think.

[...] Compared with Yatrack, Aiddi is quite a closed system. It doesn’t allow third party developer to add their own stuffs. Also it doesn’t have a feeds reader, just redirect to the original URL when you click on article title. One of the selling point of Aiddi is to monitor webpage without a feeds, a bit like Ponyfish and 580k, which we have introduced. But Aiddi goes a rather questionable way. It just hard copies HTML DIV content from other website. [...]
580K supports RSS feed now. It support RSS2.0,RSS1.0,and nearly finish to support rss atom soon.If you give it a original url,and there is a rss feed in the page,580k will find the feed auto.
