Sina Officially Announced Its Video Sharing Service
We’ve heard that Sina would launch its podcasting service for several months, today Sina officially announced this new service in this afternoon’s press conference.
Sina calls it a podcasting service, or in Chinese 播客. But in fact, it is just another video sharing service, since users can only upload video files, no audio file formats allowed. When I tried to use this new service, I just found the UI is very familiar. Yes, if you remember the iAsk Video service which we reported in Sep, their web design are almost identical. (see screenshot below)
It seems users now can upload unlimited video files with each one up to 100MB. As most of other similar services, you can add video clips as favorites, leave comments and share clips in blogs, forums or any websites. But groups and RSS subscription are not available so far.
As a new comer into this market, Sina will follow its celebrities strategy again to market this service, I think. When Sina entered blogging service market last year, it invited many Chinese celebrities to start blogging in Sina, which attracted high volume traffic to Sina’s blog service. As you know, copyright infringement and lack of original content are very serious challenges to China’s video sharing sites, can Sina solve these problems through its celebrities strategy and partnership with traditional media?
