PodLook, the podcasting directory and search service, release its latest statistics(PDF file) on the development of Chinese podcast.
As of Jan 10th, 2007, the number of China’s podcaster amounted to 215,957, more than doubled in five months. The number of podcasts reached over 2.86 million, a 463% increase since Podlook’s last statistics report in August, 2006. Among all the podcasts clips, 86.91% are video podcasts, in last August, the percentage was about two third.
Though the number of podcasts increased significantly, lack of original content is still a major challenge faced by those podcasting sites, esp. video sharing site. But Podlook did not provide data to support its observation. PodLook also thought money will continue to be invested into podcasting industry, but may more focus on vertical application of videos. The change of regulation policies will influence the industry significantly.
