Bokee Makes Strategic Adjustment

Market rumor of Bokee’s layoffs has been confirmed by Xing Tao, vice president of Bokee. Fang Xingdong, Chairman of Bokee, used to take Sina as competitor, and want to make Bokee as a major player in crowded portal market in China, so Bokee recruited many staffs in this year to edit content of the site.

But according to the report by Sina, the staff adjustment and layoffs are mainly involved content department. Xing said Bokee will focus on blog hosting service rather than media business, and close unrelated services gradually, and Bokee will put more efforts into moblog and value-added service on blogs.

It is really a big change of Bokee’s strategy, but I personal think it may be right choice. To compete with sina in portal market is not a smart strategy, but Bokee still have chance to be leader of blog hosting services in China, so focusing on core business might strengthen its competitiveness.
