Feedburner’s Chinese version Vs. Feedsky
Just four days after Feedburner said in its blog that it is interested in Feedburner Chinese language version, someone started to recruit translation volunteers in Yeeyan to work on Feedburner Chinese version.
It is not surprising to know that Feedburner is highly interested in China. In fact, more than one year ago, Feedburner has signed a partnership with Bokee to promote its service in China, though it is not a successful cooperation. But it is sure that Feedburner will not neglect potential Chinese market. However, unlike in other market, they need to face a great challenger in China, that’s Feedsky, a big name in China’s rss management market.
As a pioneer in rss management field globally, Feedburner has developed many innovative ideas. Feedsky, being regarded as China’s Feedburner, learned much from Feedburner, but it has been the largest feed management service provider in the world, and its recent ReviewMe-like service is well received by advertisers and bloggers. Feedsky is building its brand image among Chinese bloggers, and many of them start to switch from Feedburner to Feedsky. Besides that, as Feedburner’s strategy to partner with media publishers, Feedsky also makes partners with various media and publishers to manage their feeds. So I think Feedburner’s Chinese version will make it more user-friendly to Chinese publishers, but it will not have significant influence on Feedsky.
Now, more and more overseas web 2.0 companies have launched Chinese version or plan to do, such as Last.fm, Pageflakes and Netvibes. But to localize means much more than UI translation, you need to understand local market and do business development locally, esp. in China, where many big Internet companies failed, as Yahoo China and eBay.
