Feedburner’s Localization Meets Feedsky’s Globalization

Today’s big news for Feedburner is the rumor that Google may acquire it for $100 million, however for Chinese, the big news is Feedburner officially launched its Chinese version, it is translated by a popular Chinese blogger. Though the translation is criticized by Chinese users, it is not important. Because the translation is easy to improve, the most important however difficult part is how to localize its service in China.

On the other hand, another big news in China’s feed market is Feedsky will launch an English version soon. Mr. Lv Xinxin, CEO of Feedsky, showed me the English version. It is almost finished, but still need to improve many details. English translation is just the first and the easiest step, in fact, Feedsky is negotiating a partnership with an overseas company with strong background (sorry, I can not disclose more details now). The partner will help Feedsky to promote its English service in US and Europe.

As I said before, Feedburner will meet a strong challenger when it comes to China’s market. But it is more difficult for Feedsky to explore overseas market, where Feedburner has built its competitiveness, and the situation may be worse if Google does acquire Feedburner.

If Feedsky will launch its English version as expected and Feedburner is not becoming GFeedburner, then it would be an interesting story to watch, since it would be the first time two internet startups from US and China to compete directly in an important internet sector globally.

Update: Gang Lu has an informative post about it too.

Next generation web right here in China? Whatever, we still don’t even have generation 1 yet, its just a giant intranet with ’selected’ external content.

By the way, if you try to enter our market we will destroy you or own you just like everyone else. Firstly if you are even remotely successful there will be a government sponsered competitor launched ASAP, and then the below the belt tactics will start, like making your site frustratingly slow or intermittent dropouts just like we did to Google, that’s how baidu got ahead in the early days remember….?

    Dream on! Web2.0 Hahahahahahhahaha!

    It’s so interesting.
Though I am a long-time user of feedsky,i hope feedburner can provide better services if it is purchased by Google.
