mInfo Acquires Mobile Search Service Guanxi
mInfo, a Shanghai-based mobiel search service provider, announced to acquire another Shanghai-based mobile search service Guanxi SMS from Mailman Ltd.
Guanxi was established in early 2002, offers local directory services via SMS using English and Chinese in 20 major cities via SMS, its target users are mainly expatriates in China.
Alvin Wang Graylin, CEO of mInfo thought that the transaction will solidify mInfo’s lead in the marketplace and expand mInfo’s reach into hundreds of thousands of high-valued expatriate users and thousands of partner merchants around the country.
We previously reported mInfo’s $3.36 million funding in 2006. mInfo was selected as finalist for MoMo’s 2007 Global Peer Award.

Actually, that deal was done quite some time ago–just not announced. Guanxi SMS provides (duh!) SMS-based services aimed at expats in China: send them the name of a hotel or restaurant you only know in English, and they’ll text you back the Chinese characters for it.
