Chinese Podcaster Analysis by Podlook
Jack of Podlook (profile), the largest podcasting directory in China, has just finished a data analysis report based on podcasting data in last 3 months in Podlook.com. Though a Podlook-based data analysis may not reflect the exact whole picture of Chinese podosphere, and the development of Podlook’s platform itself in this three months also influences its findings and conclusion, the report and data is still very useful and important for us to understand Chinese podosphere.
It’s CWR’s great honor to have Jack publish English summary of his research here.

Here is a report of Chinese Podcaster in Jan, 2006. The analysis are based on Podlook.com’s data in the last 3 months and our observation during this period. (It only counts the number of the podcast played Online and the number of downloads is not included). The conclusions are for your reference.
Chinese Podcast develops very quickly in the last 3 months but still in the early stage. The audience listening habit is not changed yet and the high qualified podcasters are not enough yet.
Some key conclusions:
-
1. The Chinese podcaster nearly doubled in the last three months, from just over 10,000 podcasters to about 20,000, and the number of podcasts is nearly tripled.
2. The percentage of regular podcasters is small (<10%). Most podcaster just make 1-2 tries and no regular output.
3. Audio is the most frequently used way.
4. 88% of podcasters have no regular audience; there are few users using rss subscription to listen to podcasts.
5. Top 5% podcast clips get 87% audience.
6. The number of independent podcasters is few(2%), but they covers nearly 50% audience.
