SubscribeDonews to Take Wordpress as Blogging Platform
According to blog of Liu Ren, founder of Donews, Donews will take Wordpress as platform to expand its blogging business to provide services to various users rather than only to IT bloggers. The new blogging service will be under the sub-domain of my.donews.com, and the existing service under sub-domain of blog.donews.com will not be affected.
Donews, the most popular IT community in China, is providing blog hosting service mainly targeted at IT related bloggers, the system is based on .Text blogware. Keso, the most famous IT blogger in China, works for Donews as a chief editor. Just before the end of 2005, Donews was acquired by Mop (or ChinaInterActiveCorp), an entertainment community.
After the acquisition, Liu Ren said that Donews aims at 200% growth rate in 2006 from its current 300,000 users and 4 million daily page views. I believe expanding its blog hosting service is its first attempt to realize its goal, but such expansion may distract Donews’ core competence and force it to compete directly with MSN Spaces, Bokee, Blogcn and many other BSPs.
