Yeeyan Rolls Out New Version

YeeyanYeeyan, the social translation community, rolled out a new version today. The new website not only looks nicer, but also adds a new feature called “Yee Message“, which is an inline twitter sort of thing. You can see what other members are doing in the community such as assigned a new translation job, published a new article, etc. It’s the center for tracking what is going on in the community.

Yeeyan is also suffering from some growing pains. One is the quality control. Though there’re not many, some articles has been considered as translation spam. This isn’t going to be a big problem, as the community is a filter itself.

The other problem is the copyright. Since the quality of some articles are quite good, they have been republished by many websites. Recently Netease translation channel made some Yeeyan translator unhappy. Yeeyan later published an official response denoting that Netease doesn’t have much to be blamed in this case. It also frankly points out that republishing also helps with the spreading. You can read more discussions in this group.
