Zhuaxia Improves Hot Articles, Personal Profile

Online RSS reader Zhuaxia today rolled out a new version of its hot article channel. The main improvements are anti-spam/cheat algorithm and allowing comments. Several days ago, it also made a big facelift of personal profile page. Now it looks to be more social.

The hot article channel is one of the most important features of Zhuaxia. I know a lot of people, who don’t use Zhuaxia as RSS reader, are checking the hot articles to see what others are reading. There’s independent effort to build a meme tracker in China, but the default Techmeme alternative in my mind is Zhuaxia hot articles and Douban 9taps, especially channel 4.

Allowing comments is no wonder a good idea. One reason is as mentioned in onejoo article that people like to discuss in a forum style. The other reason is the natural of social reading. These comments, unlike those on the original blog, are left for other readers not for the author. Some users are more likely to comment under this context where he knows more about other members in the community. Since Douban is more on its social aspect, comment is more suitable for it.

Zhuaxia’s new hot article channel is very like Digg in page layout. There’re current hot articles and upcoming candidates. On the right column is a list of all time hot articles.

The new personal profile makes Zhuaxia more like a social network. On any user’s profile, you can see your common subscription and recommendation. Also there’re guest book, groups list, visitor list, friends list, all of which can improve interaction between users. A pure RSS reader’s future is determined. With all these social features, Zhuaxia has the potential to turn from tool to community. At the same time, its future is full of imagination again.
