Xiaoxishu Launches New Version with Pay Per Drag
Shanghai based online classifieds startup Xiaoxishu launched a new version on Aug. 1. It does the same thing as US based Craigslist and Ebay’s Kijiji. But its revenue model is based on a patent idea that lets users to compete for the promotion area on the website in a Ebay auction model.
To participate in the competition is very easy. You just use your mouse to drag your message to the highest place in the list. The top three places in the list are the PK area. By the end of the PK round, the winner will be able to show the message in a special promotion area on the upper right side for an hour. Then the next PK round starts.
For requirement posts, the service is free. But for vendor posts, they should pay for the promotion opportunity. They call this pay per drag model. Like any auction on Ebay, If you want to drag your message into the PK area to kick someone out, you need to pay more than him. In case you lose in the PK round, you will be refunded.
As you probably has guessed, some of the core members in the team are from Ebay/Eachnet, whose business has been merged into Tom by the end of last year. And their main targeted users are those online shop owners in Taobao, New Ebay/Tom, Paipai of Tencent.
The domain of the company has been living since Jan. 2004. A 21cbh report says they launched their online business in June 2005. They have been doing classifieds business for years, from offline to online.
