Anyp.cn Shut Down Its Service
Anyp.cn, a blog hosting service based in Guangzhou, announced that it will not continue its business to provide blogging service for consumers, and it will seek someone to take over this business.
Since July 26th, users can not access Anyp.cn’s service. Anyp said there was something wrong with their data, and the service will be available soon. But yesterday, Zhang Jingjun, CEO of Anyp, announced in her personal blog that because some of Anyp.cn’s users published inappropriate posts in their blog, therefore, Anyp has to shut down its service asked by regulatory departments, and Anyp will try to find other blogging service providers to take over its users and help them to move their previous posts. Anyp will focus on its blogging and website development business for enterprises and institutions later.
Blogbus, a popular blogging service provider in China, has announced that they would like to offer help to Anyp.cn’s users to move their blogs to Blogbus.
However, I’m not fully convinced by the reason that Anyp.cn has to shut down business. According to censorship policy in China, there are inappropriate content by users in almost all blogging service providers, they mainly deal with this problem by deleting the posts when required by regulatory departments or by self-censorship. It does not make sense that they have to shut down the whole business because of it, unless most of the content in Anyp are breaking censorship law and not allowed to publish.
Richard Cheng thought it is possible that Anyp don’t want to continue this consumer-oriented service, because there is conflicts with its similar service Anyp.com, which is targeted at enterprises, because Anyp.cn is free while Anyp.com is not.
