Music Recommender News: LikeNote and 8box’s New Widgets

LikeNoteLikeNote is a DJ powered music recommendation website. It seems it has just turned one today. It’s a one-person project of Mulder.

As Mulder said, LikeNote is not like a web2.0 website, because it’s not open for registration. All the DJ’s are invited. The website is like a group music blog. But certainly massive visitors can rate, comment and further affect the featured songs on the homepage. There used to be a channel for unregistered users to recommend songs. But it has been closed for technical reason. Mulder has been using this way to discover new candidate DJs.

Speaking of music recommendation, I usually think of three ways: the Last.fm way, the Pandora way, and the fully automatic way by audio analysis. But there’s the forth way, which has been used by radio industry for a long time, that professional DJs produce high quality music program. I was recently introduced an interesting interactive music project. I thought it would be one or combination of the former three approaches. But turns out it falls into the forth category. And now I think this old model has the potential to regain momentum by introducing some web presence.

8boxOther music recommendation websites are not standing still. 8box has been actively rolling out new features. Their recent new products are three nicely designed personal widgets: 1. a widget shows your recent loved songs; 2. a fully customizable widget shows playlist from your personal radio to community hot list, and it includes comments and lyrics; 3. a nice little single song playing button. These widgets should meet your all kinds of requirements.
