3D virtual community hype hits China again. NovoKing, a new 3D virtual world, will start its private test in coming September.
Novoking was founded by Mr. Patrick Zha in Oct 2005, that means Novoking has been under development for nearly two years. In fact, Hipihi also started its development in 2005, and entered private beta in this March.
Talking about a 3D virtual world, we will undoubtedly compare Novoking with Second Life and Hipihi. Last week, when I met with Michael Zhang, COO of Novoking, and Wang Ruibin, they told me that Novoking is quite different from Second Life and Hipihi in some ideas and user experience.
They thought that at the very beginning of a virtual world, the beginners will be confuse by what to do besides creating objects. To increase the attractiveness of Novoking to users, Novoking will provide a ready-built virtual city, which has cloth and accessory shops, scenery park, Disco club and etc., then new users will be busy visiting different interesting places, forming their own networks by trying various activities and experiencing a new virtual life.
Novoking targeted at user group of 16-35 age and especially female group, so Novoking plans to design the virtual world in fashion and cool style. You can feel the style from the screenshots below, it is quite different from the feeling when I use Hipihi the first time.
Creating objects is an indispensable part of a virtual world, besides using tools provided by Novoking to modify basic ready-made models to make the creation rather simple and user-friendly, it also allows users to use popular 2D and 3D tools like Photoshop, 3Dmax, Maya to create more efficiently, then upload to Novoking. User can also add scripts for these ‘objects’ to let them have different features and movement actions.
Since they are still busy developing the program, I have no chance to look the real performance of Novoking, but based on the screenshots (you can browse Gang Lu’s Flickr for more screenshots) , it is quite impressive, and I believe it would be a challenger to Hipihi in China. But there is still a question for both Novoking and Hipihi, is 3D virtual world too early for China?
