Get Free Books By Selecting Ad Sponsors
Shanghai-based Bookgg is a startup exploring a new advertisement powered free book business model.
Ordering free books has never become so easy. First you select the book. Second, select ad sponsors with their placement on your book until the price of the book drops to zero. Third, there’s no third step unless you count clicking the submit button. You will receive the book in two weeks.
So you are going to order tons of free books today? You cannot. For every free book, you need to have a book ticket. You will get one after you register. Then you will have to earn book ticket by referring new users or orders. You can also buy a pro account, so that you get new tickets every month.
Every ad sponsor can only be selected for once. That means you cannot ask the same advertiser to sponsor you in two books. Your personal information will be provided to your sponsor.
Books are printed by Bookgg. So they are not the same copies in the book store, although they have the same content.
In theory, no one wants advertisement. Users won’t like these ads just because they selected them. This is a weak point of the model, since it’s extra burden to the readers, not to say there’re not many ad sponsors to select yet.
There’s another model which places advertisement on bookmarks without customization. It also reduces book price by introducing advertisement, but there’s no extra burden for the readers.
I am not familiar with book publishing business. But since Bookgg has printing and distribution platform, they can act as a publisher for those authors in the long tail part of the market. Most probably, they are not allowed to do so.
Thanks Wappblog for the tips.

It is “simply” amazing. Are you acquainted with similar activities of American/European companies? It’s a smart way of targeting the audience. My doubt is how this companies repays expenses. Unfortunately I do not have any Chinese/Japanese knowledge and I was not able to browse the website, and I could not get any evidence of the brands range that sponsored this venture.
Is advertising able to cover completely them and guarantee additional income? Maybe reading this post a year later allows me to get a recent update of this start-up economic health conditions.
You seem really well-informed and up-to-date. I would really appreciate a feedback from you. Thanks in advance.
