Stuck In Games? Baidu Wants To Lend A Hand

Baidu gameBaidu Launched Baidu Game yesterday. What’s it about? We have been hearing others call it game search, game news portal, etc. After poking around for a little bit, we found those are not accurate descriptions.

Baidu Game is a search driven forum for sharing know-hows of any games (in future, currently only 5). It’s a natural derivative for game players to turn from asking in Baidu Zhidao to Sharing.

To search in Baidu Game, you must focus in only one game by choosing from an option list first. It seems to be an easy way make search result relevant, especially for entry level searchers. After you select a specific game, the page will be decorated with a special theme accordingly. There’re only 5 games available now. I don’t know their English names, but you can refer to this PE post.

Since Baidu implemented permanent login for users, user experience has been significantly improved. Although users are not required to input their real identity, but with linking multiple accounts in all Baidu products, users are sort of real. Now users can track someone who has replied her question in Baidu Zhidao and find more know-hows shared by this user in Baidu game.

In my games section, users can manage their posts, images uploaded, profiles and bookmarks. This is the main difference from a traditional forum. We think it’s too early to criticize it. From a product point of view, it’s simple, to the point, without frills.

As pointed out by this Shanghai Security News, Zhang Yi, director of Baidu Game, is a former employee of Sohu responsible for its game portal — 17173.com.
