Chinese Blogger Conference 2007: Meet Us On Social Application Panel
We will be moderating the social application panel on the coming Chinese Blogger Conference 2007. The panel is scheduled on 10:45am, Nov. 3.
There’re lots of topics can be covered regarding social application: social media, word-of-mouth marketing, for example. But we are not going to talk about these topics in this panel.
We will focus on the fundamental requirement for people to use a social application — building and managing relationships. Panelists will be from top social networks in China, as well as vertical services which are doing just one thing in a niche market but contributing to the same social graph.
Following is a quick list of topic ideas passing through our mind.
Social application as a live address book. A standard form of using a social network is to import your address book of email application to see who has already in the network. Several of my friends have expressed that the way to input account and password of a web email system to find friends is convenient without noticing their identity security.
Social application is redefining the concept of friend. How did you react when you received the first friend request from a stranger? So far, there’s no such a network only with real friends. Will Geni be a difference? You should come to the panel to find out.
How difference is Chinese social relations from the rest of the world? Not many people know why Facebook is called this name. In Chinese, face or mianzi is a strong factor behind social activities. It seems Facebook has got a relevant name in Chinese culture even before rolling out a Chinese version.
Everyone knows openness is the future, but the motivation is just not equal for everyone. People have been complaining for recompiling their friend list again and again for every new service they come across. Slaving under the platform of one big company is not the most ideal approach for the emerging new startups. You know such a requirement or solution? Come to contribute to the panel.
To make this post short, we will just stop here. If the above points have raised your expectation of the panel, it’s our pleasure.
Great participants are still welcome even approaching near to the conference. If you want to contribute ideas or sign up to the last-minute waiting list of panelist. Please leave comments or drop me a line. The language of the conference is Chinese, but we have no problem in handling an English speaker.
We are, with you all, looking forward to the success of this great annual event.

[...] The American diva of corporate blogging, Debbie Weil, is hard at work in China now (and enjoying every jetlagged minute!). She’s blogging, naturally, at China Blogging Tour, and speaking tomorrow at the Beijing ad-tech conference. There’s a lot going on in the social media world in China, of course, and suddenly the conferences are springing up like mushrooms. (That’s a poor choice of words, given how some people see social networking, but I think I’ll let it stand.) There’s a Chinese Blogger Conference coming up, too, in early November - here’s a post about it from China Web2.0 Review - and I’m scheduling to speak at Nurturing and Commercializing Online Communities in Shanghai at the end of November. After talking about writing a blog early in Day 2, I see that I’ve also been booked to moderate the final panel, which sounds quite good: [...]

[...] From the coverage that is out there, I found it hard to extract the key insights on the potential of social applications in China. Four posts can provide a starting point: David Feng’s Blognation Cnbloggercon day one post, John Kennedy’s live Cnbloggercon blog account, and Luyi Chen’s description of goals and summary of the day. If there are other insightful posts in Chinese or English about this panel let me know so I can add to this post. My key takeaways from the coverage and other blog commentary: [...]
