Wealink Integrates With Mangbar, Social Network Not Time-Wasting Site Anymore

Wealink MangbarDuring the last several days, Shanghai-based business social network Wealink rolled out a new version. The most siginificant change is a new tab which interegates with online collaboration service Mangbar. Mangbar is a two-person project, which provides small-sized project management and community. We profiled the service back in last October.

When you first come to the new tab, you need to link your Wealink account with Mangbar account. Then you will be shown the exact same user interface as Mangbar. This is a loose integration, in which Wealink just outsources a subdomain to Mangbar. You will be operating on Mangbar’s server from a different domain.

Unlike non-proprietary platform provided by Facebook, this kind of integration in easy to start in the beginning but difficult to extend and maintian afterwords, especially when the two services are developed with different technology. I have found that there’s no way for me to logout from the current binding Mangbar account and change to another one, which is abosolutely necessary for curtain purpose.

Social network usage has been rising sigificantly during this year. But so far, this kind of service is still treated as time-wasting site from an employer’s perspective. By integrating productive services, will social network be able to change its fame? We will be told by Alexa or something in the coming months.

Wealink has also rolled out a twitter-like feature in this update. It’s more like Facebook’s status. There’s only web-input available now. Other users can follow your updates from a tab on your profile. But currently there’s no RSS or SMS or IM way to receive the updates.

Wealink claims to have 1.2 million registerd users. It received several million US$ in second round of funding by the end of 2005. UCI and SIG led the investment.
