Friendster To Announce Simplified Chinese Version

FriendsterFriendster, US-based social network pioneer, will formally announce the Simplified Chinese version in a few hours. If you are a regular user of the service, you should have noticed the language option on the upper right corner of page for a couple of weeks.

While the local social network market is still far from mature yet, foreign services will be happy to join and get a share. Since August, Friendster has been exploring and studying Chinese market and was sponsoring the third Chinese Blogger Conference.

We had a chance to talk with executives of Friendster back in October. During the conversation we learned about its developer program announced several days later. Friendster is supporting OpenSocial, so it would be an ideal platform for developers to learn how to switch between public and private interfaces.

Going forward, there will be more and more containers open their arms to developers. With OpenSocial, developers will be able to write once and run everywhere. But keep in mind, there’re problems haven’t been touched yet. Containers are still restricting the access to their APIs within their own environment. To make the big social graph fully connected, accessing social relations from outside of the containers is necessary. We are looking closely to who would be the first to open the data.
