Two Reports: Outsourcing to China and Black Market on Chinese Web

Today, I came across two reports on China’s software and web sector which I recommend you to download and read.

The first is a white paper by Paul Denlinger on software outsourcing business in China. The white paper, called “Why Indian Software Outsourcing Companies are Outsourcing to China”, studied the challenges faced by Indian software companies, including decreasing talent pool, rising costs, and insufficient infrastructure. Paul think China is the answer to these problems, for its large talent pool, esp. in second tier cities, governmental initiatives to develop software industry, good training in software and language, etc.

What makes Paul’s white paper more interesting is that VanceInfo, a leading offshore software development company in China, has filed for IPO in New York Stock Exchange. Its net revenues were US$25.4 million in the six months ended June 30, 2007, representing an increase of 128.4% from net revenues of US$11.1 million in the six months ended June 30, 2006, while revenues of Infosys for the six months ended Sept 30, 2007 were $1.95 billion.

Another report, called “Studying Malicious Websites and the Underground Economy on the Chinese Web“, is about the black market and underground economy of China’s virtual assets, it seems it is the first report I read on this issue. (tip by Vauban Consulting)

Cyber Crime Mechanism

The report found 1.49% of 145,000 most commonly visited websites on Chinese web containing malicious content. The study presented a model which describes the interaction between different actors within the underground black market, and the mechanism behind virtual assets underground economy on the Chinese web. The report also introduced several kinds of web-based trojans and malwares attacks in technical terms, while these attacks were poorly detected by current anti-virus engines.

I highly recommend you to read this report to understand details about this special market in China’s web.
