51.com Launches Q&A Service

51.com Q&A LogoQ&A service is certainly making sense for SNS. Relying on relationship infrastructure, your questions have more chance to be answered by trustworthy people. But the service launched by 51.com, called Wenwen, is not really such a service, but a public Q&A service like Baidu Zhidao.

While there’s a filter on the top lets you select questions asked by male or female users, it’s clearly the service is mainly for dating purpose. Browsing the first page in each category, you will know it’s true. 51.com is doing good business for users who are hungry for attention. Soon there will be a feature for you to pay for sticking your questions in each category.

This is surely not the ideal model for social network, though it’s profitable. Even Facebook doesn’t have an answer for this yet. There’s only a third party application for this now, which is more annoying than useful. There’re lots of reasons for 51’s product being the current status, but it just has nothing to do with social network, so don’t bother to speculate if this is the first Q&A service in Chinese social networks.
