Taobao Mobile Version Ready

It’s reported that Taobao launched Wap version for cell phone on Feb. 27, available at wap.taobao.com. It’s an integrated platform that users can finish order and checkout process in one place. The checkout feature is provided by Alipay, another child company of Alibaba.
Now daily payment is limited to RMB 2000. Online auction feature is not available in mobile version. That means you can only buy those non-auction goods. Users can use their existing Taobao account to login to the system.
While in China, there’re still large amounts of people can only access the Internet though cell phone, the move expose Taobao’s service to an even larger group of users. For existing users, this is not a big deal, since the features are still too limited compared to the web version. It’s only useful for certain goods like pre-paid cell phone cards.
But for mobile payment, this is a big move. Originally the payment thought cell phone is basically using mobile operator as a middle man. In Taobao mobile version, users are paying directly though their Alipay. We smell mobile commerce is coming near.
